Capital Campaign Objectives

To build a state of the art, multifunctional, innovative AFA Education and Resource Center to support the more than 60,000 Long Islanders living with Alzheimer’s or related dementias, and thousands of family and professional caregivers in need.

Now more than ever, families affected by dementia-related illnesses need places to go for guidance, assistance, and support.

Alzheimer's Disease is a Public Health Crisis

Alzheimer’s disease is a growing health crisis. More than 6.7 million Americans currently live with Alzheimer’s disease, a number projected to more than double by 2060, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

On Long Island, an estimated 60,000 people are living with Alzheimer’s. As those numbers grow, there will be a corresponding growth in the number of family caregivers who need assistance and services.

Filling an Unmet Need

Our new Long Island Center will be the first of this capital campaign. The lack of such a place across Long Island will fill a significant service gap facing Long Islanders affected by dementia.

The Center will be readily accessible to residents of Suffolk and Nassau counties and will provide essential services for Long Island families, and valuable training for the workers that serve them.
